Theories of Counseling — MCPY 610
Theories quizzes
Two layers: a cross-theory drill built for CPCE prep, and per-deck quizzes for the units that had none. 112 questions total, each citing the slide or matrix row it was written against. Click to reveal answers and rationales. Not scored; for review, not assessment.
Cross-theory drill — CPCE prep
The course is finished; the CPCE is Summer 2028, during Internship A. Recall is already covered by the comparison matrix, flashcards, and Anki deck in the local class folder. What those don’t train is telling adjacent theories apart under time pressure — which is what these three drill.
Vignette identification
A counselor does or says something — name the theory. The item type that separates memorizing founders from knowing theories.
20 questionsConfusion pairs
Beck vs. Ellis, ACT vs. DBT, narrative vs. SFBT, Adler vs. Freud, Bowen vs. Minuchin. Distractors are the other member of the pair, so guessing by school fails.
18 questionsTerm attribution
Clusters of terms to attribute to one theory. Where a term is genuinely shared — congruence, parts work — the rationale names the collision.
20 questionsPer-deck quizzes
Classes/theories/new-quizzes/. These three had no quiz at all. Feminist Therapy is deliberately not here — its lecture deck is four slides, too thin to quiz from without the textbook chapter.
Schools of Psychotherapy
The synthesis lecture — all seven schools compared on Way of Knowing, Way of Being, and Way of Intervening. Theorists, timeframes, and where each school locates suffering.
18 questionsThird Wave — ACT and DBT
ACT's six core processes, Relational Frame Theory, and metaphors by process; DBT's dialectics, biosocial theory, four skills modules, and stages of treatment.
20 questionsFamily Systems and the Genogram
Bowen, Minuchin, Satir, and IFS; differentiation of self and the DSI subscales; genogram symbols, triangles, and strength-based notations.
16 questionsCovered elsewhere
Instructor quizzes exist for Adlerian, psychodynamic, existential, person-centered, gestalt, behavior therapy, feminist, and postmodern (narrative and solution-focused). Quizzes for CT/REBT/CBT, IFS, and reality therapy live as PDFs in the local class folder. None of those are reproduced here.
